Why not Escape...

a  To a magical place hidden in the heart of beautiful East Devon...    A place close to a spectacular coastline, in the gentle rolling Devon countryside, somewhere you can completely relax and experience camping with a difference!

Here on Hunger Hill we have 4 Mongolian Yurts set in a secluded two-acre field on a small holding with sheep, pigs and chickens and a friendly old dog! We are in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with panoramic views over the Otter Valley just ten minutes by car from the M5 at Exeter and five minutes from the sea at Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth.

Rustically, yet with a touch of luxury…

The Yurts are furnished with five comfy beds, warm duvets, all bedding provided, a fully equipped kitchen area with calor gas cooker, stools, a low table and beautifully painted Moroccan storage boxes. There are big kilim cushions and sheepskins to relax on around a central wood-burning stove. The Yurts are decorated with intricate light patterns thrown from Moroccan Lanterns…so warm and cosy at night!

Outside each Yurt there are hammocks, great for stargazing! Also a picnic table and open fireplace with a BBQ grill. All fire wood is provided.

Experience the nomadic life style, living close to nature but with the luxury of hot showers, mains toilets, kitchen sink and a fridge! We have a large and well equipped farmhouse style kitchen in the field that you are welcome to use. In the centre of the field there’s a pavilion marquee with tables and benches with a fireplace and BBQ just out side.

Next door to the Yurt field there's miles of unique Pebble Heath common with woods, streams and stunning views towards the coast. Take an evening stroll to listen to the Night Jars sing. Harpford Common is an R.S.P.B reserve. It's bursting with wild life and its wonderful walking country!

Wander down the River Otter to the sleepy village of Otterton for a delicious cream tea at the Mill. Otterton Mill is a centuries old working mill with a fabulous cafe and bakery that sells a superb range of organic local produce.

Ten minutes down the hill from the Yurt field, the village of Newton Poppleford offers the famous Southern Cross Tea Rooms, old pubs,     fish and chip shop, restaurant and village shop.

There are a variety of beautiful beaches to visit along the Jurassic World Heritage Coastline. From Exmouth to Sidmouth and on to Lyme Regis …there’s a different beach for each day of the week! Catch the ‘Stone Balancer’ on the beach at Lyme Regis or take a Mackerel fishing trip from Beer. From there follow the costal path to Branscombe. Marvel at the spectacular views! Enjoy rock pooling and body boarding at Sidmouth. Then on to Budleigh beach in time to watch the sun go down and for an evening swim and BBQ.                                Explore the wild and rugged beach behind Orcombe Point at Exmouth. Have a paddle and build sand castles on the miles of sandy beach.          All this and much, much more...... Check out the ‘local area’ page on our web site for more info.

Come and enjoy an environmentally friendly holiday!                Enhance your experience of the natural world by booking a day with our local foraging and  bush craft experts or book a session of circus fun in the yurt field with Polylopit.  Enjoy a days adventure at Escot Education's Greenwood Center including a barefoot bog walk!       The contact details for all these activities and more are on the ‘activities, services and events’ page of our web site.
